Children’s Day in Mexico

On April 30, 2017, is the day to celebrate Children’s Day in Mexico or Día del Niño in Spanish.  It has been celebrated annually since the first time it was held in 1925. This is a tradition that, being from Canada, I had to learn about when we moved here.  I must admit it is hard for me to get my head around something called Children’s Day as, in my household, it appears everyday is Children’s Day.

On Children’s Day, studies are usually canceled for the day and the school organizes games and activities for the children.

There are special events throughout Mexico organized in amusement parks, sport arenas, shopping malls, museums and zoos.
This is also a day in which many children receive presents from their families.
