Zona Romantica, also known as Old Town, is located on the North side of the Cuale River. It is one of the most popular areas of town to visit and live. Located within this area is a bustling area of great restaurants, bars, art galleries and shopping. Lined with cobblestone streets, a mixture of old and new architecture, gay and straight tourists and residents, and young and old this area is a place where all fits together perfectly.
Within this area you will find the famous Los Muertos Beach and the spectacular new pier. Relax on the beach at the posh Mantamar Beach Club (with its own pool and spectacular beach area) or at one of the many other excellent beachfront restaurants (Swell, La Palapa, Langostinos to name a few).
Home to one of Puerto Vallarta’s favourite Saturday morning local markets; make sure to check it out. Booths with locally made art and food, fresh produce and flowers are just some of the things your will find.
Art Galleries are well worth the time to visit while in the area. Wonderful paintings and sculptures can be found in such places as Galeria Dante and Contempo Galeria. And for those looking for authentic handicrafts check out the local market stalls, you will find everything you need.
Zona has a vibrant gay scene with many bars, nightclubs and beach clubs. While there are many gay bars, straight and gay both will enjoy these establishments. For a great Martini and live music be sure to check out Garbos. For those who like to dance the night away take a trip over to Pacos or CC Slaughters. Also a fun time always La Noche. If you need to soak up some sun and relax after a night of Tequila and dancing, Blue Chairs and Green Chairs are always a great option.
Tired of the bar scene, then be sure to check out and support the great live entertainment in the area. Act II has world-class productions on a nightly basis. The Boutique theatre, which recently relocated to the top floor of Nacho Daddy, also never fails to amaze. And for those that enjoy a great Cabaret or Drag Show, check out The Palm Cabaret and Bar.

Wonderful restaurants can be found within this area everywhere. There are too many great ones to name them all, but be sure to check out as many as you can. From the local taco stands, small intimate Tapas restaurant 116 Pulpito to the romantic La Palapa and everything in between, you are sure to find many favourites.
