Puerto Vallarta not only stands out for its natural beauty and vibrant tourism, but it is also considered one of the safest cities in Jalisco. Nationally, it ranks among the top ten cities with the lowest perception of insecurity. This success is a result of the joint efforts of security organizations that work together to ensure the safety of the community and the thousands of tourists who visit the city each year. Unlike some other urban areas in Jalisco, Puerto Vallarta offers an environment where safety is a priority for both residents and visitors. 

The city has established itself as a safe and ideal destination for vacationing and living. Its beaches, outdoor activities, and nightlife are enjoyed with the confidence that security is under control. Many of my clients have asked what each of the different police security organizations do, so here is a description.  

Policia Municipal: First Responders in Public Safety 

The Municipal Police of Puerto Vallarta is the first line of defense when it comes to local safety. Officers are always present, patrolling and responding to daily emergencies. Recently, the municipal government implemented a plan to strengthen the police force, investing in officer training, modernizing equipment, and acquiring new patrol vehicles and uniforms. The aim is to improve crime prevention and foster stronger ties with the community. 

In 2024, the government launched a recruitment drive to bring new officers into the Police Academy. This initiative seeks to increase police presence across more neighborhoods, providing greater coverage and efficiency in surveillance. 

Vial: Maintaining Order on the Roads 

Policía Vial play a crucial role in regulating road safety in Puerto Vallarta. They ensure the smooth and safe flow of vehicles and protect pedestrians. These officers are also responsible for enforcing traffic laws and responding to accidents, helping to maintain order on the streets and preventing risky situations for drivers and pedestrians. 

Guardia Nacional: Strategic Defense 

The presence of the National Guard in Puerto Vallarta is vital in addressing high-impact situations such as organized crime. In coordination with the Municipal Police, they carry out security operations that strengthen the city’s defense. The Mexican Army (SEDENA) also steps in when higher response capacity is needed, such as in the relocation of individuals or the management of complex incidents. 

Patrulla verde: Protecting Wildlife and Nature 

Among the most important organizations for environmental conservation is the Patrulla verde. This specialized group focuses on protecting local wildlife and flora. In 2024, they responded to more than 700 reports, ranging from animal abuse cases to crocodile relocations and the protection of endangered species like sea turtles. They also respond to wildlife emergencies outside their natural habitat and work to protect critical natural areas of Puerto Vallarta. 

Patrulla Rosa: Protecting Victims of Violence 

Patrulla Rosa is another specialized unit with a crucial role in the safety of Puerto Vallarta. Created to protect victims of gender violence, this unit is trained to handle cases of domestic violence and child abuse. Its primary function is to follow up on restraining orders and provide direct support to those facing dangerous situations, including women and children. Patrulla Rosa also works to prevent child abuse and assists in emotional crises and extreme violence cases. 

Conclusion 

Puerto Vallarta has earned its reputation as one of the safest cities in Jalisco thanks to the joint efforts of its security organizations. Policia municipal, vial, Guardia Nacional, patrulla rosa and patrulla verde work together to ensure public safety, road order, and environmental conservation.
