The northern end of the city of Puerto Vallarta, just north of the airport, borders the state of Nayarit. Just 15 minutes north of the airport, you will find Nuevo Vallarta, recently re-named Nuevo Nayarit. The area is claiming its own identity and vibe apart from PV, and rightfully so. Nuevo is super popular with visitors and expats for its beauty and serenity, away from the action of Vallarta and downtown in the Zona Romantica. And unlike Vallarta, Nuevo Vallarta is not a city or town but instead a sophisticated master-planned resort community, with miles of walking, hiking and biking trails.
Aside from several prestigious golf courses, Nuevo Nayarit is known for Flamingos Beach which stretches up to the south end of Bucerias. This 8-mile stretch of glorious soft sand beaches and calm waters is perfect for swimming, body surfing, kayaking, parasail, kite surf, jet-ski and floating in the warm ocean water.
In terms of local amenities and resources, Nuevo is self-contained. Many of the best restaurants in Vallarta have locations in Nuevo including Dolce Vita, El Barracuda, and Mr. Cream. Joya Hospital, one of the finest hospitals in Mexico, is located in Nuevo, along with many excellent doctors, dentists, and other medical professionals. La Comer has opened a location in Flamingos and there are plenty of local markets where Americans and Canadians can find favorite foods from home.
Also located in Nuevo Nayarit is the famous Paradise Village Marina and Yacht Club which offers world-class services and 200 berths from 26 feet to 240 feet. The marina is headquarters to the Banderas Bay Regatta and hosts prestigious international sailing events.
A second marina in the area, Marina Nuevo Vallarta is expanding with an expected final capacity of 244 vessels from 25 feet to over 90 feet in length.
